GREY SQUIRREL CONTROL

The grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) represents one of the most significant threats to native woodland biodiversity in the UK, causing extensive bark stripping damage to broadleaved trees, suppressing red squirrel populations across their remaining range, and predating the nests of woodland and hedgerow birds. Our grey squirrel control service supports landowners, woodland managers, and conservation organisations in delivering effective, sustained population management as part of a wider habitat or species recovery programme. We design and implement control programmes appropriate to the scale and context of each site, utilising approved methods including live capture trapping and the deployment of self-resetting traps such as the Goodnature A18, ensuring that control effort is both targeted and humane. All work is carried out in full compliance with current legislation and the relevant codes of practice, with particular attention paid to the safeguarding of red squirrels where relevant. Regular monitoring and clear reporting allow clients to track the effectiveness of control operations over time, supporting applications for woodland stewardship funding, timber investment programmes, and species recovery initiatives where demonstrated management commitment is a key requirement.
