ECOLOGICAL SURVEYING

BIRD‐NESTING SURVEYS

Sensitive and well-timed ecological survey work is essential to ensuring that habitat management operations and infrastructure maintenance are carried out legally, safely, and with minimal disturbance to nesting birds. Our bird-nesting surveys provide landowners, contractors, and land managers with the clear, timely information needed to plan vegetation clearance, scrub management, firebreak cutting, and other operations in a way that is fully compliant with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. We carry out pre-works nesting checks across a wide range of habitat types — including woodland edges, scrub, hedgerows, rank grassland, and heathland — assessing the presence and activity status of nesting birds and providing practical, pragmatic guidance on whether works can proceed, should be modified, or require a period of delay. Our survey reports are produced to a standard suitable for submission to contractors, planning authorities, and conservation bodies, and we work closely with clients to minimise programme disruption whilst ensuring that legal obligations are met. For larger estates and land management operations, we also offer scheduled seasonal survey programmes that integrate nesting bird checks into the broader annual management calendar, reducing last-minute delays and supporting proactive, wildlife-sensitive land stewardship throughout the year.
